Cute as a Button!

I love, love, LOVE the site, One Pretty Thing.  Rachel is always featuring the cutest DIY/crafty projects that are floating around the internet.  The other day, she featured this cute project from Mique, from 30 Handnade Days.  I thought it was a really cute idea, but I had no idea if the boy's preschool teachers had pierced ears or not, so instead I made the buttons into magnets.  Everyone can use a magnet right?  Especially a really cute one?  I attached the magnets to the cards with an awesome invention!  Zots!  The only way I can explain it, is they are comparable to the sticky stuff in mailings and magazine subscribtions.  They are high tack, so they hold the heavy-ish magnet to the card, but they peel off easily.  Mystifying stuff!

Bee Mine and little something extra (A Giveaway!)

Maria, you said you wanted to see what I made for that party...

Erik and I were beyond thrilled to get invited (again!) to the most fun, fantastic Christmas party to ever be had.  This year, the hostesses threw in a catch.  We were going to play Chinese Steal but this time it had to be a handmade gift!  Yay!  Erik went to town, he painted the most gorgeous mockingbird and put it in a frame.  I hemmed and hawwed and couldn't decide which direction to go.  I could do this or that or this.  So in the eleventh hour (of course) I made a necklace, but felt bad for if a gentelman were to receive it, so I went and dug around my college portfolio and framed this bee.  In the eleventh half hour, the party was cancelled.  Boo!  The party was rescheduled later.  Yay!  But Erik forgot all about it.  Boo! (last week WAS crazy and I'm still upset we missed it).  But you can have it - if you want it.  And!  And, I'll even mail it to you!  Yay for giveaways!  Just leave me a comment and tell me which color necklace you'd like.  The picture shows green and gray, and since Valentine's is nearing I'll even offer to make a red one if your heart desires!  If more than one person comments, I'll draw a random name.  BTW, the green necklace is more fluffier and a tad bit longer than the gray.  (I guess I should add a deadline - how about Tuesday, January 25th, noon)

21/30

So this poor project has turned out to be a little bit more than what I planned for. My new goal is to finish this before my 31st birthday.

Sadly, If I would have written about this person earlier, it would have been antemortem and not post mortem.
My Paw Paw suffered a severe stroke last Saturday and passed away later that evening, surrounded by family.

Erik and I decided to name our first born after him. Gram surprised us all by being born on Paw Paw's birthday too. We call them Birthday Buddies, but I hope they are more like kindred spirits.

My grandfather was a stickler for savings. If he gave us money for good grades or for working for him, he'd advise us to save it. Other times, he would deposit it directly in savings. And speaking of working - that man worked. Hard. My brother said he could run circles around him and my other brother when they would go work for him.

I'll remember most, his favorite snacks, sense of humor, the way he pronounced Erik's name (Ear-ick), and his generosity. He was a good, good man and I was lucky to call him Paw Paw.
